Handmade Decorative Tiles

For centuries, ceramic tiles have been both a decorative and a practical feature of large lavish cathedrals and very practical everyday kitchens and baths.  Tiles are both utilitarian and beautiful.  And you can make you own original in this class.

Students will follow a step-by-step process to create an original relief tile and then make a plaster press mold in order to recreate the tile numerous times.   Original designs can be abstract or representational or geometric.  Feel free to bring your own ideas to class!

The molded tiles will then be bisque fired and in the second class, decorated with underglazes and/or glazes and fired a second time.    Students will decide the date of the second class which will be approximately 2 weeks after the first class and will last for approximately one hour.
