Owatonna Community Education

This is an exciting spontaneous class that is a great way for children to explore a smorgasbord of mixed media art materials.  Students do not need art background to benefit from this class designed for 8-14 year olds. Dar Brooks who is an award winning artist has a non-threatening, motivating, self esteem building teaching style.  The goal is for the children to produce finished pieces of art with strong individuality.  They will work to understand the techniques and concepts presented, acquire skills in handling them, and develop a deeper understanding of design and abstract beauty. Children will be led into the magic of:

• Drawing a subject of choice
• Painting with watercolors and acrylics
• Getting to know modern artists
• Creating personal symbols
• Printing and texturing techniques
• Exploring line, shape, and color
• Sculpting with clay and junk

 Dar facilitates the artistic process as she make every hour of class a new adventure.  There will be short demos, individual help, and lots of encouragement.  This gives the students the confidence to create art that is uniquely theirs.  There are no mistakes in this creative class.  Supply fee is included in the class fee.  Students bring a bag lunch, beverage, paper towels, and wear paint clothes.
